Chad Buck is the founder and owner of multiple companies that are involved in food, food processing, and distribution. Buck’s companies include Hawai‘i Foodservice Alliance LLC, HFA Logistics LLC, Hawai‘i Secure Foods LLC, and Ni‘ihau Ahiu Provisions LLC.
Buck’s family of companies employ over 560 professionals that specialize in food distribution, production, food safety, and cold chain logistics throughout Hawai‘i and on the west coast. Hawai‘i Foodservice Alliance and HFA Logistics serve every grocer, club, and retailer in the state of Hawai‘i. In addition, Buck’s companies support over 40 local manufacturers and producers in getting their product to market across the islands. Buck is actively engaged in working groups focusing on disaster preparedness for the state. The working group includes representatives from the Department of Defense, Naval Post Graduate School, FEMA, HIEMA, City & County of Honolulu’s Department of Emergency Management, and Civil Defense for Maui, Hawai‘i, and Kaua‘i counties. Buck’s role in the group focuses on the potential for government agencies to collaborate with local businesses that are designed to handle and distribute food across all islands. Buck recently donated the state’s first “Pre-Covery Pod” to support the Waianae Community. The pod consists of 135,000 meals that are embedded in the community for distribution to those in need should the community find itself cut off from the rest of O‘ahu due to a major natural disaster. During the statewide COVID shutdown, the Farm Bureau reached out to Buck for support and logistics to help local farmers across the state move locally grown produce to mass food distributions on O‘ahu. This past summer, Buck provided the logistics and consolidation of 59 container loads of locally produced products from around the state that were featured throughout 52 of Costco’s Southern California clubs in Costco’s inaugural Made in Hawai‘i event. Buck also provides logistical support for local companies shipping to the mainland, including Maui Nui Venison meat products and Pu‘u O Hoku Ranch's honey, both which are sold by Patagonia Provisions. This past year, Buck purchased all of the assets of the former Big Island Dairy located on 2,300 acres in O‘okala, including the newly built pasteurization and processing facilities for fluid milk, juices, butter, and cheese. Buck reached a deal with the former owners for 100% of the assets just weeks before the equipment was scheduled to be sold at auction and shipped out of Hawai‘i to the mainland. Currently, the tall, green grasses of the O‘okala property are a temporary home to 500 head of cattle that were recently displaced due to the largest fire in Hawai‘i’s history that burned 35,000 acres of Parker Ranch. All of Buck’s companies are focused on building and equipping first generation leaders, and driving Hawai‘i toward a more sustainable and food secure future. |
